The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari By Robin Sharma

The monk who sold his Ferrari is one of the most renowned works of Robin Sharma. It is a fable about fulfilling your dreams and reaching your destiny. The story is about Julian Mantle, who was a hot-lawyer who lived a hardworking, yet an extravagant life. It is written from the perspective of his fellow colleague.

The story begins with Julian collapsing during a trial in the court. He escaped a severe heart attack due to his reckless lifestyle. Due to this incident, he got a wake up call and decided to drop his profession and set out on a journey to find his destiny leaving behind all he earned including his most prized possession, his Ferrari.

His journey was to India, where he met many saints from whom he learned many things. But still he was not able to find the true meaning of his life. All of a sudden he came to know about the Sages of Sivance, who were believed to be alive for centuries. He set out to find them though their exact place of existence was unknown.

Due to his sheer determination and effort, he was able to find them . From them he learned the principles of “Mastering one’s mind” , “following our purpose”, “living with discipline”, “respecting time”, “selflessly serving others” and most importantly “embracing the present”. The only thing the Sages wanted in return was to spread this knowledge in the west.

After this life-changing odyssey to India, Julian Mantle returned to his hometown, where he shared his knowledge with his former colleagues. His former colleague was indeed surprised by Julian’s makeover and was keen in mastering these principles.

Thus through this book Robin Sharma has open the eyes of his readers to the basic principles of life. Though the method to achieve these are quite time consuming, they are all simple tricks which every individual can adapt. Overall, this book will surely be an eye-opener for the readers towards finding the basic purpose of their lives.
